Scientists discover most relaxing tune ever
Sound therapists and Manchester band Marconi Union compiled the song. Scientists played it to 40 women and found it to be more effective at helping them relax than songs by Enya, Mozart and Coldplay.
Weightless works by using specific rhythms, tones, frequencies and intervals to relax the listener. A continuous rhythm of 60 BPM causes the brainwaves and heart rate to synchronise with the rhythm: a process known as ‘entrainment’. Low underlying bass tones relax the listener and a low whooshing sound with a trance-like quality takes the listener into an even deeper state of calm.
Dr David Lewis, one of the UK’s leading stress specialists said: “‘Weightless’ induced the greatest relaxation – higher than any of the other music tested. Brain imaging studies have shown that music works at a very deep level within the brain, stimulating not only those regions responsible for processing sound but also ones associated with emotions.”
The study - commissioned by bubble bath and shower gel firm Radox Spa - found the song was even more relaxing than a massage, walk or cup of tea. So relaxing is the tune, apparently, that people are being Rex advised against listening to it while driving.

Allora, cominciamo con ordine.
In Svezia la gente ha iniziato a organizzare i lunch beat. Inizia la pausa pranzo, ci si allontana dalla scrivania e si va a ballare. Proprio ballareballare, in una discoteca ricavata dentro qualche locale originariamente destinato ad altro uso, che fa molto fico fra l’altro.
Ora: si potrebbe ragionare sullo stile di vita scandinavo, che rasenta l’umanità, il senso del vivere “a gusto” per dirla come Cervantes. Degli uffici che si spopolano, normalmente, ad orari in cui le lancette segnano le 17:00, dei parchi, delle biciclette, dello stato sociale che ti paga se vuoi frequentare l’università (e perché no, delle fighe che si fregiano di gonnelle svolazzanti a sottolineare la proprietà di gambe tornite).
Oppure si potrebbe reagire ai lunch beat con sommo sbigottimento, etichettandolo come tronistico atteggiamento dello sballo pervasivo e come stile di vita. Come a dire, milanesemente: “ma vai a lavurà, barbùn!”.
Io non ho ancora deciso. Ma voi, se passate da quelle parti fatemi sapere.
Passo da quelle parti tra un mese e mezzo, più o meno. Farò sapere.

This genre is usually all about social commentaries, what happens when the world ends, when technology breaks down, when everything is possible because of science, and how all of that questions the human condition or, in some cases, defines what the human condition actually is. lolwhat. I mean. Space is pretty. I like stars. Dinosaurs rarrr. But here’s a starter kit for this awesome film genre. (
That is, these movies kick-started my own interest so my bad if The Wrath of Khan, Tron, or The Terminator aren’t in here.ETA: Uh, the ‘starter kit’ evolved a little. I just linked to as many movies as I could.) It includes some science-fiction classics (originals of recently released remakes), movies that started long-standing franchises, as well as contemporary ~masterpieces~. And Galaxy Quest. (Because it’s really fucking funny, alright.) Didn’t upload the sequels cause, uh, it was meant to be a starter kit. So. Just the starts, lawl. Message me if a link doesn’t work. “These tasty little apple chips are wonderful for snacking. We like them plain, but you can also sprinkle them with a touch of powdered sugar, or cinnamon sugar. Make as many or as few as you like.
Arrange thin apple slices in a single layer on a greased or lined baking tray. Place into a preheated 400F oven and immediately reduce the temperature to 170F; bake for about 2-2 1/2 hours, depending on how thick the slices are, and how crispy or chewy you like them. Cool. Store in an airtight container.”
(Alternatively, if you’re not down to wait two hours for baking, look for Bare Fruit Snacks’ bake-dried apple chips at your local grocery store. One of my favorite snacks!)
